August Roundup: Legislative Meetings, Beef Tailgating Event, and More

Legislative Meetings

August was a busy month for meeting with our federal delegation, while they were in the state on recess. ACA staffers met with Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton with other community leaders and organizations.

The Senators discussed our nation's economy, the farm bill, trade implications, the inheritance tax, and other critical issues. Staffers had the opportunity to visit briefly with the Senators one-on-one to discuss how these issues can specifically affect cattle producers in our state. These conversations are set to continue throughout this legislative session and as the country gears up for 2025 session, following the election.

ACA staff also had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Westerman, his staff, and District Director Jeff Pitchford of Congressman French Hill's office to discuss the dire farm economy. Agricultural organizations across the state stood united to address how Congress can help row crop producers weather this historical economic downturn, and explain how it could negatively impact the livestock industry if not addressed.

ACA members Kyle and Kevin Whitley also had the opportunity to host a staffer from Congressman Westerman's office on a farm tour this month. The brothers shared about their operation and common issues facing Arkansas cattle producers.

Tailgating Event with the Arkansas Beef Council

On Thursday, August 29th the University of Arkansas Razorbacks kicked off their season at War Memorial facing the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions. We were excited to partner with the Arkansas Beef Council on a tailgate event kicking off the football season and their Best Burger Contest!

We cooked almost 500 sliders provided by the Arkansas Beef Council and their team passed out the burgers to anyone tailgating before the game. It was a great way to bring awareness to our industry and highlight that beef is always what's for dinner!

Read more about the contest and nominate a burger at this link! Two burgers will be selected from each region and nominated as finalists. Below are the regions where they will be selecting winners. Nominations close on September 30th - so be sure to get your vote in!
