November Roundup: Arkansas Cattlemen's Leadership Course and Christmas from Cattlemen

November is a time of thankfulness and at the ACA, that is no different. We're grateful to our members and hope you had the opportunity to visit with family and take a break over Thanksgiving. Below is your November Roundup!

Legislative Support for Agriculture

Congressman Crawford standing in a sale ring

In October our members and leaders met with many of our elected officials to discuss Arkansas agriculture. That continued in November with a meeting with Congressman Crawford to discuss the Farm Bill and other agricultural issues at Ash Flat Livestock Auction.

Thank you to Congressman Crawford for having these discussions with the ag industry.

We're grateful to our entire federal delegation for their support of the agricultural industry. The ACA is here to amplify the voice of cattle producers in our state with elected officials.

Arkansas Cattlemen's Leadership Course Session 5

ACLC participants in white coats

The fifth and final session of ACLC focuses on beef from the hoof to the rail. On the first day, the group learned about the feed yard industry, ultrasounding and evaluating live cattle, farm finishing beef, value added cuts, and food safety. The evening ended with a burger cooking competition and auction.

The second day the group had the opportunity to fabricate carcasses to see how they graded and yielded compared to live evaluations. The session concluded with final meat science lessons and the results from the auction and fabrication to see which group "made" the most money from purchase to packaging.

Thanks to the University of Arkansas College of Agriculture and Department of Animal Science for hosting the group and the Arkansas Beef Council for sponsoring the session!

ACLC Applications Open

Applications are open for Arkansas Cattlemen's Leadership Course (ACLC)!

This program is always a great opportunity to learn, grow, and network in the industry.

ACLC was created to educate future leaders by giving them hands-on experience with legislative sessions, commerce, commodities, media, PR, and various segments of the beef industry.

Selected applicants are expected to attend all five sessions and the graduation. Most of these sessions will be two-day, one-night events held during the week, with the exception of graduation, which is on a Saturday in December.

Apply here by December 20, 2024: https://www.arbeef.org/aclc
